OUR NEXT SHOW IS ON THE 18th februARY 2023
The all Inclusive breed show |
The Coventry & Leicester is an ALL BREED club, meaning that anyone with any breed of cat or non-pedigree cat, or those who just love domestic cats are warmly welcome to join our club. And because we are an ALL BREED CLUB we host an ALL BREED SHOW too. Now in its 60th Year (in 2023) we would like to extend that welcome to you. Our aim is to be a friendly, helpful club that supports our exhibitors, judges, stewards, sponsors, stall holders and trades people as well as having something to offer members of the general public just visiting us on the off chance. We have a new venue for this year, with lots of added attractions and a play area for the young ones. There is an award winning café “The Junction 12 Café” also on site too.
We are also pleased to announce that The Household Pet Cat Club of Great Britain and the Sphynx Cat Association will also be joining us at our new venue, making our show one of the largest in the GCCF calendar.

We will also have a large selection of stall holders/traders within our show – situated in the Gallery 1 area of the British Motor Museum. So why not come and see us and enjoy what the Coventry & Leicester Cat Club has to offer.
SHOwing YOUR CAT |
Showing is a most enjoyable hobby and a way of making lots of new like-minded friends, but please remember though, that whilst you may win many beautiful rosettes, it is not going to make your fortune even if you have a top exhibit! And that EVERYONE who shows their cats, no matter who they are, will ALWAYS take the best cat home, for they will be your cat, who is a loved and adored member of your family.
Anyway, enough of the prose. At an ALL BREED cat show, such as ours, you can show ANY GCCF recognised Breed of Pedigree Cat in the Pedigree Section of the show (please see our article on GCCF recognised Pedigree Cats for further details). In our 2020 show we have 581 Pedigree Breed/Title classes for you to choose from with a further 231 miscellaneous/club/special classes also on offer.
We are also very proud of our Household Pet section of our show (please see our article on the Household Pet section for further details). In our 2020 show we have 24 Colour/Title classes with a further 60 miscellaneous/club/special classes on order – including the Coventry & Leicester Cat Club’s own award for cats in the HHP section - that of the Ultimate Cat.
Before we get on to the titles however, there is another consideration, that neutering/spaying or not neutering/spaying your Show Cat/s and the cats in your household. If you are not intending to breed from your cat, then we would encourage you to consider having your cat/s neutered, for their safety and your peace of mind – neutered (altered) cats do not tend to fight as much or travel as far as their entire counterparts. Please see the GCCF articles on health and neutering https://www.gccfcats.org/Health-Welfare/Neutered/spayed cats and kittens are accepted and shown just as much as those who have not been neutered/spayed. In the case of pedigree kittens, you may find some breeders will have already have neutered your kitten before you take it home, others recommend neutering at 6 months of age. All cats being shown in the Household Pet section must be neutered/spayed from the age of 6 months.
Titles are not awarded to kittens (except in the case of the kitten winner of the GCCF Supreme Cat Show who is entitled to use the initials SK or title of Supreme Kitten followed by the year in front of their name forever after. Cats over the age of 9 months may however compete for titles.
In the PEDIGREE SECTION - cats shown under the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) are awarded the following titles.
· An entire (unneutered) cat is always called an ADULT and may compete for Champion, Grand Champion, Imperial Grand Champion and Olympian (Bronze, Silver Gold) titles to be added in front of their cats name.
· A neutered/spayed cat is always called a NEUTER and may compete for Premier, Grand Premier, Imperial Grand Premier and Olympian (Bronze, Silver Gold) titles to be added in front of their cats name.
In the HOUSEHOLD PET SECTION - cats shown under the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) are awarded the following titles.
Household Pets (BOTH non-pedigrees and pedigree pets) may compete for Master, Grand Master, Imperial GrandMaster and Olympian (Bronze, Silver Gold) titles to be added in front of their cats name.
Shows take place throughout the year, nearly always on Saturdays. The Cat Show Calendar can be found on the GCCF website https://www.gccfcats.org/ along with links to help obtain the necessary schedules and entry forms. Schedules are usually available 2 to 3 months prior to the show date and entries should be made by the closing date, generally 3 to 4 weeks before the show. Some shows may extend their closing dates so it may be worth checking with the Show Manager.
You may prefer to visit a local show before you make your first entry, but it is not essential to do so. Show s
Schedules print a copy of the Show Rules and Regulations at the front of every Schedule to help guide you while, Show Managers, Assistant Show Managers and Entry Takers can help with any queries and some shows even provide a ‘buddy’ service for new exhibitors using an experienced club member as a guide. If you want a buddy please let the show manager know when you send your entry in.
Your cat will need to be vaccinated. If you are in any doubt of the type of vaccination needed, please follow the link below: https://www.gccfcats.org/Show-Information/Vaccination-Rules-for-Shows.
If it is a pedigree cat (with pedigree and registration document) then your cat will need to be registered in your name, using the cat’s pedigree name (which will be on the registration document) with the GCCF before it can be shown. If your cat is a non-pedigree or pedigree pet, than it may be shown without registration BUT it will not be able to attain any titles. Cats in the Household pet section need to be registered in your name, using the cat’s pet name, with the GCCF before any titles can be claimed or used.
All cats and kittens should be well groomed, free from parasites and in good health with claws clipped (back and front) the day before - go to www.gccfcats.org/Health-Welfare/Veterinary-Information and look on the left hand side menu for information/details on how to do this.
All this will be checked by a vet on arrival. You will need to provide white show equipment, which can usually be purchased at the show: a litter tray, food and water bowls and blankets or vet bed. You will have to leave the Judging Area or at some shows the show hall during the morning while the main classes are judged, returning after lunch while judging continues with miscellaneous classes. At the Coventry & Leicester Show you can stay in the show hall all day, though you can not talk to the judges while they are judging, nor must you approach your cat’s pen whilst judging is in progress.
BEWARE!
CAT SHOWING IS ADDICTIVE.
